Napoleon III compartmentalised box in rosewood veneer
This elegant box dates from the Napoleon III period, circa 1850–1875, the golden age of French decorative arts.
These boxes were used to store gloves, letters, accessories or sewing supplies.
It is made of rosewood veneer on the exterior, a precious wood prized in the 19th century for its deep colour and refined grain. The structure of the box is made of mahogany.
The lid is adorned with a central cartouche, unadorned by any engraving, and brass fillets.
Compartimented with its original removable insert, allowing for two levels of storage.
Brass push-button opening mechanism, fully functional.
