Antique ‘Stop-Fire’ fire extinguisher - Circa 1925
A beautiful and unusual industrial piece discovered in the forgotten cellars of a Parisian pharmacy that served as a laboratory from 1900 to 1950.
Forgotten since the 1920s among the workbenches and vintage glassware left behind. Amidst the workbenches and vacuum bells, it watched over the pharmacist's masterful preparations.
Unlike standard painted sheet metal models, this ‘Stop-Fire’ fire extinguisher is an industrial design piece from the Roaring Twenties, between the two world wars.
Designed by engineer Georges Beaumont (based on the Champs-Élysées), it shares the same percussion mechanism as the models intended for aviation or luxury cars (Bugatti, Delage) of the time.
But its distinctive feature is its rare enamelled steel finish, much rarer than the chrome versions. This enamel was essential to withstand the corrosive atmosphere of the laboratories of the time.
Its ivory white finish features a magnificent logo with stylised flames, whose shades of yellow and red have retained all their freshness. An Art Deco design that transforms this simple technical tool into a beautiful wall sculpture.
