Tripod Torch Candle Holder with Coat of Arms - Napoleon III-era Troubadour style in brass
The troubadour style dates back to the reign of Napoleon III, when France was fascinated by a reinvented and romanticised Middle Ages.
This movement, known as the ‘Troubadour style’, reintroduced fantastical beasts and medieval imagery into the decorative arts.
Brass candlestick on a tripod base
A true immersion in the romantic imagination of the Second Empire, this brass torch celebrates the Troubadour style.
Sand casting: The object has a bold relief, typical of sand mould casting.
Traditional assembly: The reverse side reveals the structure: a central threaded iron rod and hand-folded retaining clips, guaranteeing the integrity of the original piece.
Symbolic and fanciful coats of arms: The centre is decorated with stylised fleurs-de-lis surrounded by blue painted cartouches, simulating ancient medieval enamels. These fanciful coats of arms do not document a specific family, but rather the ideal of nobility dreamed of in the 19th century.
