This heraldic engraving on copper from 1722 comes from the first volume of Alexander Nisbet’s A System of Heraldry, Speculative and Practical: with the True Art of Blazon (Edinburgh, page 531).
The illustration is signed by the Édimbourgeois engraver Robert Mylne.

The proof is presented in a modern matting. The opening window measures 7.7 × 5.7 cm and the support box 16 × 14 cm.
Coat of arms & Motto: Silver in the sinople necklace charged with nine gold mascles, quartered in chief with a letter A of sand. Motto: FIRM. (Farm / Solid). In the crest, a rock from the helmet. This mineral pattern symbolizes unwavering and constancy, directly echoing their motto Firm.
History: Branch of the counts of Stair and barons of Cranstoun, illustrious family of the nobility of robe and the Scottish magistracy. The crested rock symbolizes the firmness recalled by their motto.
