Description

Potassium cyanide and iron

Also known as yellow potassium prussiate

Antique 19th-century pharmacy bottle – Mouth-blown glass – Cork stopper and metal cap

A very fine 19th-century label. The cartouche, with its acanthus scrolls and Didone typeface (recognisable by the ‘y’, for example), is highly representative of the aesthetic of French apothecary shops in the second half of the 19th century.

Unlike pure cyanide, this compound is historically classified as low-toxicity. In the 19th century, it was widely used in industry for the manufacture of Prussian Blue (pigment) or for the cyanotype process (photography).

Bottle height: 24cm Diameter: 9.5cm
