It was used as a lotion for skin lesions as varied as scabies, leprosy, whitlow, but also rickets, etc. Doctors were advised to wash their hands and rub them with camphorated alcohol before treatment or surgery and to disinfect instruments, but also to soak suture threads in this lotion. Soaked compresses were placed on wounds after incision.
