Specimen jar in blown glass - Inverted apothecary jar - Seed vase
Size L - Height: 32 cm
An antique laboratory or conservatory container, this cylindrical flask with a hemispherical top is a classic of 19th- and early 20th-century cabinets of curiosities. Its distinctive shape, known as a ‘cigar end’, was designed for the display and preservation of biological or botanical specimens.
The object is presented upside down: the rounded top offers a clear, undistorted view of the contents, whilst the base, slightly flared during the hot-forming process, ensures the stability of the whole once sealed.
Made of blown glass, hence the presence of bubbles in the glass, with its original cork stopper
Perfect for displaying curiosities such as small taxidermy specimens, minerals, dried flowers, small skeletons and bones

Green label: SUBSTANCE TO BE STORED SEPARATELY – CODEX 1908
Indicating to the pharmacist that it must be stored separately from other substances in the cabinet for toxic substances, the famous ‘poison cabinet’.
It comes from the former cellar-laboratory of a Parisian pharmacy. The bottles had not been moved from the shelves since the late 1950s. The cellar had served as a medical analysis laboratory and a laboratory for the pharmacy’s compounded preparations from 1900 until around 1950.
