Description

Antique papier-mâché doll’s head on a base

To evoke 19th-century museum displays, the head has been mounted on a beechwood plinth with a matt black finish.

A striking piece for any lover of unusual objects. This antique doll’s head, crafted from a traditional blend of paper, plaster and fibres, exudes a magnetic presence.

Originally designed as a toy component, it has been reimagined here as a true cabinet piece in the style of a memento mori.

The interior reveals a layer of Spanish newspapers used to reinforce the structure. Fragments of political texts from the 1980s can be made out (references to NATO, Felipe González, Jordi Pujol), anchoring this object in 1980s Spain.

The face features a natural cracked patina; the empty eyes and the slightly parted, made-up mouth give it an enigmatic or creepy look, depending on your taste!

A few pencil marks on the top of the skull bear witness to its past and former life.

Height: 18cm

Condition: Authentic original patina with cracks from use and signs of wear (pencil marks) on the top.
