Description

Souvenir of Montmartre 1900 – Sacré-Cœur

Glass and brass reliquary box

An elegant jewellery box featuring a panoramic view of the Sacré-Cœur and the Monumental Staircase beneath glass on the lid, a chromolithograph in the typical colours of the Belle Époque.

Underneath the box is the original label, a genuine certificate of authenticity:

‘To Jeanne d'Arc – 5, Rue Saint-Éleuthère – At the Rotonde de Montmartre’

The shop was located in the Pavillon de la Rotonde, a prestigious building constructed for the 1900 World’s Fair. Situated at the summit of the Butte, this pavilion was a must-see for visitors exploring the basilica. Former telephone number ‘NORD 45-34’.

The original shop label is a real bonus, as they have mostly disappeared.

Period: Belle Époque (circa 1900)

Materials: Glass and gilded brass, padded silk – The cushion is torn, see photos.

Dimensions: 7.5 x 5 cm Height: 7 cm
