Elegant box from the Napoleon III period, in black veneer highlighted with precious wood marquetry and brass strips.
The lid is decorated with a central engraved brass cartouche, decorated with neo-Renaissance foliage, bearing the original engraved initials E.R.
This type of box was intended for personal use, such as a correspondence box, writing box or precious storage box. It must have been an old game box for storing tokens.

Originally, the mahogany veneer interior was compartmentalised, but the dividers have been removed.
Original shellac French polish with slight opacity and wear from use, particularly in the corners.
In good condition, authentic patina, unrestored.
