“L'Art de procréer les sexes à volonté augmentée de la Solution à plusieurs questions faites à l'auteur, spécialement du moyen de rendre fécondes les femmes dont la stérilité dépend de la conformation intérieure”
The art of procreating the sexes at will, expanded to include the solution to several questions posed to the author, in particular the means of making women fertile, whose infertility depends on their inner constitution.
By Millot (Jacques-André)
Third edition published in 1802 - Germinal An X of the Republic
Millot was a Dijon-born surgeon who published his Art de procréer les sexes à volonté (Art of procreating the sexes at will), illustrated with fold-out plates showing Siamese twins and animals - pigs, calves, six-legged dogs - that are only remotely related to the book's subject.
The author indicates how to procreate boys or girls, and gives his recipes for dealing with sterility or malformations.
Although at first glance it may appear to be a hoax, this treatise was written with the utmost seriousness; relegated to the status of a pipe dream today, it was a great success at the time, being published several times.
“(According to Créhange in his book Les livres anciens de médecine et de pharmacie).
