A very fine example of the famous Hetzel cartonnages from the end of the 19th century, intended for school competitions.
A valuable testimony of the bourgeois salon theater of the 19th century. Berthe Vadier brings together dialogue scenes and short pieces intended to be performed with family or guests.
Beyond its literary and sociological subject, the book is worth by the spectacular beauty of its tricolor cartonnage (red, gold, blue), very popular with collectors of beautiful bindings of publishers and the universe of Hetzel.

Palette & Decorations: Superb red original percaline serving as background for a polychrome decoration of great finesse. The upper plate displays an impressive work of imaging associating the brilliance of the gilding special iron with very beautiful felts and blue and black patterns.
Visual impact: The combination of bright red background, golden highlights and deep blue touches gives the volume a remarkable visual presence, characteristic of the high-end know-how of the Hetzel bookbinding workshops for its prestige editions.
