Stylised bronze dolphin candle holder
Late 19th century - Sold without candle
Stylised bronze dolphin candlestick
Late 19th century, circa 1880-1910.
The candlestick was used to provide light when moving around, unlike candlesticks and other candle lighting fixtures that remained on a piece of furniture.
Bronze – 19th century Louis XV style
Bronze candlestick with antique patina, depicting a stylised dolphin forming the shaft, resting on a tripod base decorated with rocaille foliage.
The bobèche is screwed on, characteristic of productions from the second half of the 19th century.
Inspired by 18th-century decorative vocabulary, this model is in keeping with the historicist taste favoured in scholarly interiors at the end of the 19th century: dynamic forms, animal motifs, references to mythology and rocaille ornamentation.
A decorative object with character, ideal for displaying in a cabinet of curiosities.
