From the 1900s to the 1950s, it was not uncommon to find cocaine listed as an ingredient in certain lozenges, particularly those intended for throat ailments.
This box dates from the Belle Époque and is in the Art Nouveau style, circa 1900, featuring a beautiful illustration typical of the period, with a mix of serif typefaces and stylised lettering characteristic of the turn of the century in 1900.
They help keep the vocal cords supple—6 to 10 lozenges a day, depending on age.
