A rugine is used to scrape bone and loosen the periosteum, the fibrous membrane that covers it. It can be used to clean bone lesions or to prepare grafting sites.
The width of the handle ensures a firm grip on the instrument, while the notch on the neck leaves room for the pad of the thumb to control scraping force.
