Pyrogallic acid - DANGEROUS
Found naturally in gall nuts, hence the root of its name.
Pyrogallol or pyrogallic acid was used in photography to develop and strengthen silver images in Collodion because of the perfection of the images it produced. Nicknamed the king of developers at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th, it fell into disuse in the 1920s.
But it was also used in pharmacies as an ointment to treat certain skin conditions, notably psoriasis, but it had to be handled with care because it was extremely toxic.
Apothecary's vial
The vial is still wrapped in its original paper to protect the pyroganol, which deteriorates when exposed to light.
