Box of cocaine lozenges – MBC (Menthol Cocaïno Boraté) from GOY Laboratories in Paris
From the 1900s to the 1950s, it was not uncommon to find cocaine listed as an ingredient in certain lozenges, particularly those intended for throat ailments.
This box dates from the Belle Époque and is in the Art Nouveau style, featuring a beautiful illustration typical of the period, with a mix of serif typefaces and stylised lettering characteristic of the turn of the century in 1900.
Manufactured by a renowned tinsmith and lithographer from Montreuil: J. Ollier
