Needle - Dr. Léon Finelle's trocar in its case

Early 20th century

I haven't found much information about Dr. Finelle, but he was a doctor from Burgundy who practiced in Dijon and won the Picamelot Prize in 1903.

A medical pamphlet published by Dr Finelle in 1904 at the Imprimerie du Journal du Havre: ‘On the use of a new trocar needle for paracentesis and injections of fluids into the body’ explains that this trocar needle was used to perform abdominal punctures (paracentesis).

Faux leather case with burgundy felt interior.

The trocar is branded Andersson

Case dimensions: 14.5 cm x 4.5 cm.

Trocar length: 13.5 cm.
