Napoleon III period glove box - Victorian period in France
From the 19th century, when elegance was a way of life.
Rio rosewood, also known as palisander, used for interior and exterior veneering.
Rosewood, highly prized at the time and extremely luxurious, was imported from Brazil and used for luxury items in Paris during the Second Empire.
Marquetry in brass, bone and silver metal scrollwork.
The basket in the centre of the composition is typical of the period 1855-1865, often inspired by designs from the Maison Tahan in Paris.
The basket appears to contain fruit, but I cannot recognise what it is. Perhaps exotic fruit.
