Containing the formulas and ingredients used for remedies at the time, it lists all the plants, minerals and animals that went into the composition of these remedies. Some of them are quite surprising to our modern eyes.

Like earthworm oil for joint pain or to heal a wound, or oil from vipers that have been cooked and smothered in a pot beforehand for skin diseases such as scabies.

Urine salt, obtained by distilling human urine, can be diluted in a glass of white wine to treat epilepsy. An oil is extracted from the western civet, which is none other than human faeces as written here, to treat scabies. 

Epilepsy can also be treated by distilling storks...

Full leather binding, 5-ribbed spine and gilt bindings.

The book consists of 2 volumes, the first for the galenic pharmacopoeia, whose table of contents is on page 9 at the beginning of the book, and the second for the chemical pharmacopoeia, which starts on page 442 but whose table of contents is also on page 73 at the beginning of the book!

Corners and covers dulled, inside worm gallery in corner on first 50 pages. Copy heavily handled. Tear on page 433.

The engravings are grouped together at the end of the book on fold-out plates, which have been restored and reinforced. The 6 copper-engraved plates outside the text, 5 of which represent the apparatus required for pharmaceutical preparations, and the last the table of chemical symbols.
