Black engraved swordfish rostrum from Bornéo (Indonesia)
Xiphias gladius
Swordfish (from the Latin Gladius) owes its name to the appearance of its rostrum (or beak), similar to a sword blade, and its ability to split water with ease and speed. Swordfish rosters are traditionally used for weapons.
This one has been dyed black and carved with tribal motifs on both sides.
