Lapis-Lazuli from Afghanistan
Lapis-lazuli is a stone of blue color between the azure and the ultramarine, it is moreover from this stone that came formerly the pigment ultramarine, before its synthesis in the 18th century. Very rare it was extremely expensive and was reserved for senior people.
The lapis-lazuli considered to be of great value have an intense blue color, dotted with golden chips due to the presence of pyrite and sometimes white which comes from calcite.
The largest lapis lazuli deposit is in Afghanistan.
