Antique metal pharmacy pot
The typography on the label allows us to date the jar to around 1920. Furthermore, the inscription ‘Pharmacist 1st Class’ gradually disappeared after the First World War, continuing to be used in the early 1920s before falling into disuse.
This ointment was used to treat boils, whitlows and abscesses by maturation. Ointment No. 2 contained ichthyol, lead oxide and petroleum jelly.
Now abandoned due to the high toxicity of lead in prolonged contact with the skin...
