Ostracion meleagris or guinea fowl is a species of tetraodontiform fish of the family Ostraciidae. Its common name, the guinea fowl, comes from its many white spots resembling a guinea fowl. It is a typical Indo-Pacific coral reef fish that is found from East Africa to Hawaii, usually shallow. They are part of the so-called chest fish because they have an angular ossified carapace surrounding the head and body. The carapace, once dried, retains its shape, which thus serves as decoration.
